Here we need to make a logical comparison between the Dutch economy and the economies of the other nations listed. Therefore, we can immediately eliminate (A), (B), and (C). As for 'economy' vs. 'economies', 'economy' would suggest that Britain, France, and Germany share the same economy. This is clearly not the case, so the answer is (E).

That noted, the original poster may want to take another look at the end of the answer choices. For instance, (E) and the unemployment rate has remained
compares well with all the three other countires, despite the incorrect spelling of 'countries' is nonsensical. 'Compares' needs to be dropped and 'below' needs to follow 'well.'

Dutch economy is being compared to the 'economies of Britain, France and Germany'.... and the other criteria of comparison is the 'unemployment rate' which has remained well below that of the other three.

E for me too. economies is right here as the subject is X,Y and Z and hence plural
