For the last five years, the XYZ Courier Company has made regular delivery trips between Town A and Town B. The average time taken by the company’s drivers to drive the round trip between the two towns, excluding the time taken for loading, unloading, and delivery, over that period has been 80 minutes. John, a driver for XYZ, needs to make a personal trip between the two towns; he figures that he should allow approximately 80 minutes for the round trip.

Which of the following, if true, does not call John’s conclusion into question?

The route between Town A and Town B has been plagued by increasing congestion over the last five years, as the area's population has doubled during that time.

Most of XYZ’s courier vehicles are heavy trucks, for which speed limits are lower than for passenger vehicles.

Many of the packages carried by XYZ between Town A and Town B are large, high-security packages, for which the processes of loading, unloading, and delivery can take up to half the length of the trip itself.

John will make his personal trip at an hour when XYZ does not make delivery trips.

Before a freeway was built between Town A and Town B two years ago, the only routes between the two towns were state highways with multiple traffic lights and reduced-speed downtown zones

why is the answer not b or d

Thanks in advance,
Sidd

Hi

Read the question....The stem says you have to find an answer that does not weakens the conclusion.....
Focus on the conclusion : Time reqd for travelling between two towns will be same as taken by drivers for drivers working at the transport company...remem the time does not takes into account the time reqd for loading and unloading....
Assumption...there is a similarity in both the trips.
Hence look for an option that pin points the dissimilarity between the two, the option that does so is not the right answer.

Both the options ie B and D mentioned harm the conclusion or in other words points the dissimilarity between the two trips. Optionc states the time reqd in loading and unloading , its already mentioned that the time reqd for loading and unloading is not considered in calculating 80 mis...hence option C does not affects the conclusion

Hope that helps!!!

This is the second time I answer this question and I still got it wrong, then the minute I read the answer, I understand the logic.

It would've been really helpful if the wording of the question clarified that this personal trip is taken on a weekend or after working hours for example, because as I read the stem of the question I understand that John will make this personal trip as he drives the courier truck in between delivery trips, so B didn't make sense.

But if John were to take this personal trip, completely irrelative of deliveries trips or the company trucks, then the logic stands.
