For USC and other top programs do essays really matter?

For USC and other top programs do essays really matter? [#permalink] New post 20 Sep 2012, 18:14
I know for law school essays and LORs are just a formality, I was told this by several lawyers. But for Accounting school are these mere formalities or do they actually matter. In other words will a school such as USC look beyond a lower than average GPA, let's say 3.4 (3.5 is the average), if you write a really good essay?

Consider essay is a serious problem when apply in Ms program since u do not have any clear career path !!
