Free GMATClub tests - discussion and review [#permalink] New post 14 Oct 2013, 12:53
I have seen various questions popping up regarding the free GMATClub tests, so I decided to review them here. Partly because I am curious to hear other people's reaction, partly because I like to help out.

The Manhattan Quants are brutal. They proved to be a great source for practice to me, although I have read other stories here and on other GMAT forums. I encourage the algorithm GMATClub uses, but applying it on the Free MGMAT Quant tests is not a very reliable indicator for your actual quant performace. 13/20 generally gets you a q50, whereas 11/20 gets you a q40 (you can imagine my discouragement after receiving q40!). Questions are extremely tough, some are time consuming and quite a lot combine different concepts. Overall, I love them :-)

Knewton Quant is worth the shot. Some questions are difficult, some can be solved in a few seconds (though they all claim to be 700+). Scored a big q51 here, definitely easier than the MGMAT Quant.

Knewton Reading Comprehension is great (v41). Both the articles and the questions are pretty tough. Be aware that you are given 2 minutes per question!

Knewton Critical Reasoning is a bit ambiguous (v42). There were a lot of questions that I intuitively guessed correctly, but in many cases, either 2 or no answer seemed plausible. Take this from a person who considers practically all LSAT CR and level 700 OG questions clear.

Knewton Sentence Correction is way too easy (v50). Please don't get your hopes up if you score v50 here (all answers correct) - SC is definitely my weakest spot and I completed all of the questions totally effortlessly and jetlagged.

Overall, the free tests are worth a shot - especially the MGMATs. They completely push you over the edge, a way of learning I like a lot. Not completely sure what to think of Knewton - the math questions were great, but take scores with a grain of salt.
