Frequencies greater than or equal to 22 kHz are inaudible to the human ear. Is frequency F audible to the human ear?

(1) Frequency G is 16 kHz.
(2) Frequency F is three kHz higher than Frequency G.

Statement (1) doesn’t tell us about Frequency F; INSUFFICIENT. Statement (2) only gives us Frequency F in terms of Frequency G; INSUFFICIENT. Combined, the statements are a trap set in Critical Reasoning/Inference fashion – we know that frequencies +/= 20 kHz are inaudible to the human ear, but we don’t know that all frequencies below 20 kHz are necessarily audible to the human ear. (Remember that a statement like “All frequencies above 22 kHz are inaudible” does NOT imply that “all frequencies under 22 kHz are audible”.)

Statement 1 gives the value of G of which we are not concerned. Not sufficient.
Statement 2 gives a just relation between G and F. Not sufficient.

Now on combining we merely get to know that frequency of F is 19kHz.
Given fact is: Frequencies greater than or equal to 22 kHz are inaudible to the human ear. BUT it doesn't tells us the exact value beyond which the inaudibility starts.

consider the example: integers less than or equal to -5 are negative. But does really the negative numbers start from -5? No. We need the exact value beyond which the negative range starts to say even something.

The same principle applies here.

I first chose C.

But after going through the OE, it is clear that it's E. Did not except a CR like question in Quant...

yes, it is a CR type question...

analogy:

qtn: if you do >=22 mistakes, you don't pass GMAT....did you pass GMAT?

statements combined: you did 19 mistakes...it does not mean that you passed as it it did not say <=22 mistakes will make you pass the exam..
