FreudтАЩs theories of the workings of the mind, while brilliant for their day, were formulated before most of this centuryтАЩs great advances in neurophysiology and biochemistry. Today, we have a far deeper understanding of the biological components of thought, emotion, and behavior than was dreamed of eighty years ago. It would be foolish to continue parroting FreudтАЩs psychological theories as if these advances had never occurred.
It can be inferred from the passage above that the author would be most likely to favor
(A) the abandonment of most of FreudтАЩs theories
(B) a greater reliance on biological rather than psychological explanations of behavior
(C) a critical reexamination of FreudтАЩs place in the history of psychology
(D) a reexamination of FreudтАЩs theories in the light of contemporary biology
(E) increased financial support for studies in neurophysiology and biochemistry

The answer is D, yet why A is wrong ?

A is too strong for the reason of 'abandonment' and 'most'. The author doesn't suggest any specific or rigid facts that might prove fallacy or total inconsistency of Freuds theories.

Not seeing the previous discussion:

A is too strong (MOST and ABANDONMENT)
B no suggestion about reliance
C no suggestion about the Freud's place
D is the best (it would be foolish to continue..., so we have to change something)
E no idea about finances

but doesn't author's statement shows his inclination towards new techniques?
B should be ok to go with. author never indicates to examine the theory.
