From 500 to 640- Should I retake? [#permalink] New post 13 Aug 2011, 10:04
Well I retook the GMAT yesterday and improved my score from 500 to 640. I have to thank Manhattan and you all on the GMAT Club Forum for my improvement. However, I am thinking about taking the test again in hopes of improving a little more.

I bought the Manhattan Self Study program in February and believe this really helped me. My concern though is that all of my MGMAT tests and the GMAT Prep test that I took were all higher than my actual test result. It looks like I need to improve my quant score. I thought about buying the Club tests but read that these really only help you to go from 45 to 50. Am I close enough that these would help? Can anyone suggest ways to improve my quant score? Thanks. Below are my scores:

Actual GMAT 640 (Q39 V 40)

MGMAT 1- 680 (Q44 V38)
MGMAT 2- 670 (Q43 V38)
GMAT Prep- 650
MGMAT 3 - 720 (Q43 V45)
MGMAT 4- 700 (Q44 V41)
MGMAT 5- 670 (Q44 V37)
MGMAT 6- 690- (Q47 V37)

You got 44-47 for Quant on MGMAT CATs and got a 39 on the GMAT???

RETAKE!!!!
39 Means your fundamentals are weak. Practice using the question banks posted by other forum members. There are questions categorized by topic (geometry, algebra, ratio, rates etc...). You should know what you are weak at and practice till you can solve 600-700 level qtns flawlessly and quickly (preferably within a min to 75s). With just solid fundamentals, you can easily break past Q45 and with your high verbal, you stand a big chance of breaking 700. Just make sure your GMATprep 2 indicates 700. YOU DO NOT WANT A WORSE 2nd SCORE.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure I'll retake it after more practice. I'm leaning towards buying the GMAT Club tests. Thanks again for the input.
