From MGMAT SC Guide: (Edition 5; Chapter 9: Idioms; p168)

RIGHT: His widely ranging emotions are hard to deal with.
WRONG: His widely ranging accomplishments are impressive.

Can someone explain why the first sentence is right and the second one is wrong? I am unable to figure out any difference between the two sentences.

I guess its related to countable and uncountable nouns.

You can count accomplishments (ex. MBA degree, PMP certification etc) but you can not count emotions.

I would disagree.

The fact that "emotions" is used in a plural form makes it clear that it's a countable noun. So that can't be the differentiator.
