further education to get into a good mba school [#permalink] New post 15 Apr 2008, 21:53
hi guys can someone plz give me some advice.

im planning on applying to mba schools either next year or the year after. my one main weakness will be my lower GPA (2.92 / 4). I'm currently working full time in a bank treasury department and I'm debating what training to do that would maximize my chances of getting into a good mba school:
1) Either I could enrol in universities continuing studies program and complete a few courses there, and I'm thinking higher marks in these courses may help schools focus less on my low undergrad GPA. Or, I'm thinking of enrolling in one or two courses at a university's masters of finance program and receiving marks for those.
2) I'm thinking I could enrol for the CFA, and that if i pass the first and possibly the second levels of the CFA, this may help improve my chances of a good mba school?
3) the third option im thinking of is to just take training courses at the New York Institute of Finance. I get a certificate for each course I complete and theyre usually just one or two days long. i just started my new job 3 months ago, so im thinking this may be good since the CFA and uni courses would take a lot of time away from my work. but ia lso don't konw how much of an impact just taking finance-related courses without receiving any kind of letter marks, just a certificate would do for mba schools?

does anyone have any advice or suggestions as to which of these choices i should go for? thanks so much
