Galanin is a protein found in the brain. In an experiment, rats that consistently chose to eat fatty foods when offered a choice between lean and fatty foods were found to have significantly higher concentrations of galanin in their brains than did rats that consistently chose lean over fatty foods. These facts strongly support the conclusion that galanin causes rats to crave fatty foods. Which one of the following, if true, most supports the argument? a) The craving for fatty foods does not invariably rsult in a rats chosing those foods over lean foods. b) The brains of the rats that consistently chose to eat fatty foods did not contain significantly more fat than did thebrains of rats that consustently choos elean foods. c) The chemical components are present in both fatty and lean foods d) The rats that preferred fatty foods had the higher concentrations of galanin in their brains before they were offered fatty foods. e) Rats that metabolize fat less efficiently than do other rats develop high concentrations of galanin in their brains.

This is a Strengthen question. I picked D and my explanations are below Quote: Galanin is a protein found in the brain.
- Galanin is the one causing b) The brains of the rats that consistently chose to eat fatty foods did not contain significantly more fat than did thebrains of rats that consustently choos elean foods. - more fat in the brain? - not right. Galanin is the protein found in the brain c) The chemical components are present in both fatty and lean foods - Argument did not say anything about chemical components d) The rats that preferred fatty foods had the higher concentrations of galanin in their brains before they were offered fatty foods. - Correct. This is what mentioned in the argument e) Rats that metabolize fat less efficiently than do other rats develop high concentrations of galanin in their brains. - Argument did not mention anything about metabolize fat efficiency

This is a beautiful and a tricky question. It is more of a assumption question than a strengthen one. In the stimulus it says that galanin causes rats to crave fatty foods. Therefore the assumption is that preference of fatty foods/or fatty foods does not cause galanin. This is strengthened in D, which says that the rats which preferred fatty foods already had higher concentration on galanin in their brains. The correct answer in this case should eliminate the possibility that the food preference caused the galanin.

+1 D Premise - Galanin is a protein found in the brain. In an experiment, rats that consistently chose to eat fatty foods when offered a choice between lean and fatty foods were found to have significantly higher concentrations of Galanin in their brains than did rats that consistently chose lean over fatty foods Conclusion - These facts strongly support the conclusion that Galanin causes rats to crave fatty foods Any options which supports the conclusion is our answer. There could be a possibility that fatty foods would have led to the production of Galanin. Any option that fill this hole is our answerd) The rats that preferred fatty foods had the higher concentrations of Galanin in their brains before they were offered fatty foods. – This is our answers as it shows that the Galanin was present in the brain before they were offered fatty foods.

hi guys
can u all explain y is A not the answer because i feel that it is also one of answer choice which is likely to be true since question is of form " X cause Y" So assumption here should be "Y doesnt cause X" What i feel that in option A its just generically mentioned Y doesnt cause ,nowhere X is mentioned.

The passage says mice that craved fatty food (Y) had more Galanin in their brain (X). However, nowhere in the premise does it say X->Y. All it says is that Y was found, and X was found. In order to support X->Y, you have to say Y did not cause X. This is what the correct answer D says. A says craving for fat ---/> choosing fatty food over leans. It doesn't talk about the role of Galanin, which is what the conclusion is talking about.
