Hi,

Many MBA schools ask for why do you chose What has prompted your application to the MBA program. To be honest, I have been out of work for a while because I chose to travel the world and soul search (approx. 1.5 year, I know it is a very long time).

Honestly, I just want to get a MBA to show employers that I have not been wasting my time.

Should I just be blunt in my answer? or fabricate something.

I have a significant gap in my resume. However i did manage to get acceptance from a highly ranked program with a good amount of merit based scholarship.
on the other hand, i did get a totally opposite reaction from another school (which is "lower ranked").

I am also getting my MBA so that I will have an updated resume, among many things. But in the application my essays were about my goals and what I want to do with the opportunities it will afford me. These two are slightly different,

Your career gap will need to be addressed somewhere in your applications and the adcom will have to understand why you had that gap. Also I would suggest applying to a variety of schools because you really don't know which schools will still give you an opportunity and which schools will flat outright reject you because of the gap.

I think it is generally ok to apply with such a long gap in employment. However, if I'm on the admissions committee, I would be asking what you did with those one and a half years. Did you just sit on your butt and ponder the meaning of life? Or, did you volunteer, learn a new skill, so some local consulting or try to start your own business? Those are two very different experiences, the latter of which I could actually see giving you credit for. Good luck on your applications!
