Hi,
Do you have any idea which one is correct?
In addition to having more protein -than wheat does, the protein in rice is higher quality than that in wheat,with more of the amino acids essential to the human diet.
(A) the protein in rice is higher quality than that in
(B) rice has protein of higher quality than that in
(C) the protein in rice is higher in quality than it is in
(D) rice protein is higher in quality than it is in
(E) rice has a protein higher in quality than

http://www.general-ed.com/The statement is comparing the quality of protein in wheat with that in the rice. So that is the meaning we should strive to make after correcting the grammatical errors.
Non-underlined part says -
In addition to having more protein -than wheat does this part is modifying "Rice" so {A and C} can be rejected.
In {D} - it says -
rice protein and this part compares this rice protein with that in the wheat, which is not making any sense.
Hence reject {D}
In {E} a
"that" is missing after than - because it is protein in rice which is higher in quality than the protein in wheat, not that protein is higher quality than wheat.
So the correct one according to me is {B}protein in rice is correctly compared to the protein in wheat, and rice is correctly modified by the non-underlined part.
