between B and D.(ll to original structure) Orignal setence says "changing the measured strain" -->warning singn B little distortion to thethe original meaning. "changing measurements of the strain across" -- warning sign --> chaning measurements -- warning sign D -- changes in "measured strain" D better than B. Any other reasoning..????

It is parallel to " tilting and other deformations of the Earth's crust" (A) is incorrect since sudden fluctuations in local seismic activity, tilting and other deformations of the Earth's crust is to be viewed as a single clause and here tilting goes with seismic activity .We need to look for parallelism between fluctuations and changes .Hence (D) is perfect

I have to admit this one got me, but I now, I get it! The take-away here is to look for parallelism in parts of speech. With the "ing", it can be a verb or a noun. Once you figure it is a noun, all the others in the series have to also be a noun. Great question
