72 * 108 = 6 * l^2

=> l = ROOT(72 * 18) = 18 * 2 = 36 inches

So Vol of cube = (36/12)^3 ft = 27 cu ft

ok, so you are approximating 72/12 to 6....I guess that in a gmat problem the number must have been an exact integer.

Total surface area = 6* side ^2

= 12 * 108 /6 = side^2 => gives side = 36 inches.

thus volume = 36 * 36 * 36/ (12 * 12 * 12) = 27 cubic feet.
