somehow strengthening with is awkward while strengthening through is better

If 'D', should not improving soil and crop diversifying be parallel??

as "improving soil and diversifying crop" ?

improving soil and crop diversifying are still parallel and are verbs

Isn't "the strengthening the economy of the south through soil improvement and crop diversification" awkward, especially the "the...." part

I agree the seems little akward.

But this seems to be the answer with least problems and has a llism.

Would go for D.
George seems to strengthen the economy of the south "by the means" of crop diversification & soil improvement.
D is parallel, The problem with C is "the strengthening the economy".

What's the OA?

The sentence above has typo errors.

George Washington Carver dedicated his life to the economic strengthening of the South with improvement of soil and diversification of crops.

(A) the economic strengthening of the South with improvement of soil and diversification of crops
(B) strengthening the economy in the South with soil improvement and the diversification of crops
(C) strengthening the economy of the South through soil improvement and crop diversification
(D) the strengthening of the economy of the South through improving soil and crop diversifying
(E) the economic strengthening in the South with improving soil and diversifying crops

strengthening || diversification (both are nouns)

Between B and C.
B has second "with" missing.
"with" soil improvement and "with" diversification of the crops

C it is.
