I'm going the conventional route...wine and chocolate truffles.

Bumping this thread because it’s that time of year and there are a lot of good (unique) ideas here. Thread summary: you can’t lose with booze.

I sent them each an Omaha Steaks gift package. They really appreciated the gift, but now I get telemarketing calls from Omaha AT LEAST twice a day :/

So I'm thinking about getting this Ardbeg 10 year for my two recommenders: http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=992236. Any thoughts from Scotch drinkers? Also, am I free to ship this across state lines?

(Also thinking about getting a slightly better bottle for the one who did NOT give me heartburn by waiting until the last possible second. But that's just me being petty.)

I guess this thread should be one of the most happening thread as most of us would go through this phase once. I am also looking for some gift ideas for my referees as well as for my few bosses.

All my referees and bosses are aged and senior Asian people. To complicate the matter, they all are very rich with branded taste!! So I am looking or inclined towards some handicrafts or artifacts, that will be cheap at their source but looks elegant.

I plan to visit few of the SE Asian countries in next few months and plan to pick up something from Thailand or Indonesia.

Probably something like Image

I gifted perfumes - Bvlgari Aqva for men and Burberry for women. Got each for about $40 which per me is a good bargain. Also, I ordered the gifts early December, just when Christmas sales started. I didn't know if I would be getting in anywhere by then, but I wanted to gift each of my recommenders something anyways for all the pains they took.

I went with really nice chocolate and hot chocolate from a great local chocolatier... 1 of my recommenders doesn't drink, but wine may have been a good call otherwise. It went over well.

I had two guys write recommendations for all 7 schools I applied to. Got one a bottle of Oban 14, and another a bottle of Macallan 12. Think it was THE move...
