Parents, if you need a summer camp for your children look no further than Federville Farms. In a recent survey, Federville Farms ranked first in both overall camper satisfaction and in food quality, and second in the variety of outdoor activities. Federville Farms has been family owned and operated for over forty years, so you have nothing to worry about when it comes to your child's safety, and it employs more Red Cross certified lifeguards than any other camp in the state. If you seek the best camp experience for your children, Federville Farms is the best choice you can make.

Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. In your discussion be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion.

Answer :The argument states that Faderville ranked number one in customer satisfaction and food quality and therefore parents should not choose any other summer camp for their children. The argument fails to mentions several factors in which the argument could be evaluated. The conclusion relies on assumptions that are unclear. Therefore the conclusion is flawed.

First, the argument states that Faderville ranked number one in customer satisfactions and food quality and second in outdoor activities. This argument is flawed because it fails to take into account many of the other factors that could be important to the parents of the kids. Such factors include safety, price charged for the summer camp. Hence, drawing a conclusion on the basis of only two or three factors is flawed. Thus, the argument could be considerably improved if it mentions other factors that could be of importance to the parents.

Second, the argument states that the summer camp is a family owned business and is therefore safe. This assumptions is again unclear and weakens the conclusion because it assumes that because it family owned then it is safe which is not necessarily true. Hence, the argument should give a clear picture of the safety standard at the summer camp. Therefore, the argument could be substantially improved if it mentions how many accidents have occurred in the past few years or perhaps elaborate on safety standards that the summer camp in question adopts.

Third, the argument mentions that it employs more Red Cross lifeguards than any other camp and is therefore the safest and most prepared for accidents. This assumptions is again weak and unclear because it fails to specify the number of the lifeguards. It could be that other camps employ two life guards while Fadevile employs three lifeguards which could still not be sufficient to ensure the safety of the children at camp. Thus, the argument could be improved if it states the exact number of life guards employed to ensure the safety of children.

In conclusion, the argument is flawed due to the reasons mentioned above. The argument could be substantially improved if it takes into accounts more factors that could be important for parents making a decision. Moreover, it should emphasize clearly on the safety standards taken to ensure the safety of the children.
