GMAT 530 (Q36/V27) - what progress is possible in 31 days? [#permalink]
07 May 2012, 13:13
Hello everybody,
I took the GMAT today and scores a 530 Q36V27. I'm not super disappointed, but I am not happy aswell. The program I want to apply for need at least a 500, with a score of 600 admission in guaranteed. So now, I am thinking about retaking or not. Admission deadline is July 1st, GMAT scores can be sent in till June 15th, so I still have the opportunity to take another GMAT.
My question is now, how much progress is possible in one month? I am working fulltime during, so study hours are limited aswell. My biggest problems are in quant number properties and word translations and in verbal especially reading comprehension.
Thanks for you help!
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andih, A lot is possible in a month. I took my first GMAT prep ( Manhattan GMAT CAT #1) a week ago and got a 530. I took the Manhattan GMAT CAT #2 on Sunday and got a 650. It really depends on how much you can devote in the next month to improving your score. I also work full time, and was able to make a huge increase in a week by really focusing on the concepts, so there is definitely room for improvement when you have a month to study. Good luck!

The key is consistency and weekend sprints. Of course, as a busy working professional, you only have 2-3 hours per night on weekdays. You can walk fast on the weekdays, then spring hard on the weekends, then repeat the next week. Our GMAT online course happens to be specifically designed for working professionals looking for solid results in 1 month. Here's a 1 month study plan that might help in your situation: http://www.gmatpill.com/the-gmat-pill-m ... tudy-plan/

It really looks like the Verbal is your weakest point; probably developing a good strategy in that section might increase your score dramatically even before studying the basic concepts. Manhattan Gmat has the most comprehensive verbal strategy, IMHO.

I already have the MGMAT material, I will go over the SC and RC books again, do you guys think it might be a good idea to get PowerscoreCR aswell? Other than that I will go over all the gmatpill verbal videos again and hope to improve that way to a V32+

Btw. here are my stats from the last CAT, was a V27 also:
300-500 SC RC CR right 2/67% 1/100% 2/67% wrong 1/33% 0/ 0% 1/33%
500-600 SC RC CR right 3/50% 2/40% 3/75% wrong 3/50% 3/60% 1/25%
600-700 SC RC CR right 3/75% 1/20% 3/50% wrong 1/25% 4/80% 3/50%
700-800 SC RC CR right 0/0% 0/0% 0/0% wrong 2/100% 1/100% 1/100%
RC is obviously really bad. I'm undecided between CR and SC as the second weakest area, but will probably focus more on CR first since I had more problems in the 600-700 region wrong in this area.

Andy Sorry about Your score, but i can say that developing verbal score is really difficult in a short period of time and regarding your quants score if u work according to specific plan you can boost your quants score to 45+, so my advice is to concentrate more on quants and on the other hand don't neglect verbal, keep doing verbal also, but devote more time to quants to elevate your score to 600+ if you manage to score 45+ in quants then you can get your desire score. All the best.
