GMAT 680 & balanced score? [#permalink] New post 19 Jul 2006, 03:51
Hi all,

after following this incredible forum for quite a while, I have decided to ask the forum for its opinion about the following issue:

I did my GMAT couple of weeks ago with 680 (Q:42/67% / V:41/93% / AWA 5.5) and plan to apply to several schools in Europe for fall 2007 (Cambridge Judge, Oxford Said, HEC and as a long shot maybe Insead).

Now, i read (e.g. in the forum) things about "balanced scores"; "mythical 80%/80% - barrier"; "at least top 15% for Quant for Top B-School" and "40ties club and its fine".

Now my questions:

What exactly is meant by a balanced score?
Do you think my quant is a killer?
Do you think that a score like mine is competitive (with a quite strong profile) for the schools i mentioned?

Looking forward to hear your opinions.

Hi,

got the same problem, on the reverse:
Score: 670 - Q50(95), verbal - 31(61), AWA 3.5

What do you think, will 34-35 on Verbal make a big differcne for the adcom?

I can only answer regarding balanced score, which is at least 80th percentile performance in EACH quant and verbal.

680 is a great score!!! nice verbal score! Congrats!!! :beer

Hey U2Lover,

thx.

So by your definition, 680 (Q:67%/V:93%) is not a balanced score and could cause some trouble with the adcoms. Mmh.

Does anybody has experience with such a score and adcoms at top b-schools? Honestly, I am not really eager to take the GMAT again (lack of time).

INSEAD accepts with at least 70% on each part of the GMAT.

I will stay away from what the ad com expects, but 80th percentile definition comes from the posts of other members here! I guess it really depends on the school, so check with them directly

So you think sending them a mail / calling them and ask them directly "do you consider GMAT 680 (Q42,67%/V41,93% / AWA 5.5) as competitive?" would work?

Maybe I'll try that.

Thx
