GMAT-680(IR-7 / AWA-5.5) Which schools to apply for? [#permalink] New post 13 Jan 2014, 00:35
Hi,

My GMAT was in DEC' 2013 and below is my score card. I want to do MBA with specialisation in technology so that I can put my past experience to use and hold a position of greater responsibility. Request suggestions related to the schools that I can target depending on my score/ profile and hold a good chance of getting through. Geography is not a limitation till the ROI is good, though the preference is USA, Singapore and ASIAN countries in the order.

-Have travelled to Istanbul and worked with the client on my very first project, 3 months after the joining.

-Awarded for the contributions made to the project.

Hey there good sir,
Thanks for dropping by. I think the first thing to think of is what are the best schools you might get into which match your goals. I think that with your profile, which has some good stuff in it (work experience, good GMAT, good gPA) without being a Tier-1 profile, should probably make you competitive at schools ranked around 25-50 (this is very approximate for the moment. I'd have to dig in deeper to get to know you better). It makes sense for you to aim for schools with particular strengths in IT. In the US you could look at: Marshall, Sheller, Davis, Broad, maybe McCombs as a stretch school.

Other than that, you gotta work to make sure you emphasize all that is unique in your profile. As coming from the Indian/Tech/Male applicant pool, there is a real danger that your application might slip through the cracks. But don't let that happen! Woo them with your passion and uniqueness!

Best,
JF

Hello sir,

Thanks for your suggestions and advice. I further explored my options and came up with the below list of schools which I want to target.
Can you please comment on the predictability of my making it through any of these institutes. I have learnt these schools are good for information management but want to know your views as well. Please advice.

-Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University
-UCLA Anderson school of management
-Ross school of Business - Michigan
-NUS
-NTU
-Georgetown University(McDonough School of Business)
-University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill(Kenan-Flagler Business School)

Hey good sir,

So most of these schools are excellent programs, but to be honest they are going to be tough pulls, especially with your GMAT score. If you were to get 40,50 points higher, you would have more of a shot, but as things stand now most of these schools will be quite tough (McDonough would probably be the easiest, and NUS, NTU…. but still hard).

Best,
JF
