GMAT 700 DONE AND DUSTED [#permalink] New post 18 Apr 2013, 12:31
Hey guys,

Gave GMAT on 16 APRIL 2013.
Unofficial score : 700 ( Q 47, V 40)

About my studying habits

1) Compulsive back bencher.
2) Mostly not even on back benches ( the play grounds have always attracted me more than classrooms)
3) Average student, usually I devote the bare minimum to keep the things moving.

Regarding the GMAT and preparations

Net time Devoted : 150~200 hours ( inclusive of practice tests )

Results of various mock CAT''s

1) GMAT Prep 1 : 600 ( Q 47, V 26) , this was the first test after just revising the very basic stuff .

2) Princeton CAT 1 : 610 ( Q 47, V27)

3) MGMAT CAT 1 : 650 ( Q 45, V 35)

4) Princeton CAT 2 : 680 ( Q 48, V 37)

5) GMAT Prep 2 : 700 ( Q 48, V 38)

6) Kaplan CAT 1 ( FREE) : 650 ( Q below 82 %, V below 70 %)

7) Princeton CAT 3 : 660 ( Q 49, V 33)

8) Princeton CAT 4 : 640 ( Q 40, V 38)

9) Kaplan CAT 2 : 690 ( Q Below 88 %, V below 82%)

10) Kaplan CAT 3 : 690 ( Q Below 92 %, V below 70%)

11) Kaplan CAT 4 : 700 ( Q Below 92 %, V below 74%)

12) Kaplan CAT 5 : 720 ( Q Below 94 %, V below 80%)

FINAL GMAT : 700 ( Q 47, V 40)

Key takeaways

1) As you all can notice , my verbal jumped from 27 to 40, while the quant stayed at 47 only.
The main reason was over confidence for quant section, I took it for granted and didnt even solve the official guide completely. Moreover Kaplan tests, which are considered tough for quant, were consistently giving me higher quant scores.
So never overestimate GMAT quant, it will surprise you if u dont practice.

2) Verbal was always a roller coaster for me, though I scored decently in verbal,

3) The biggest reason for good verbal score was the brute force I used. My CR was always good, I had a fair hold of RC and I was/is a complete disaster with grammar. I solved around 200 passages from all the sources available and solved around 500 to 700 SC questions. After this exercise I realized my RC was 9/10 and SC 7/10 . CR from start was start 9/10. ( Though faced difficulty with Kaplan CR questions )

4) One important thing I never saw a bold face CR in my GMAT , though I scored 40 in verbal. Although there were lot of assumption questions and some strange argument analysis questions.( I never saw such analysis questions anywhere)

Congrats mate…Good on you.
Can you please tell me if you have taken any of the manhattan or gmatprep test….I have done those and also the official GMAT and I found their level were almost same however lot of people don't agree with this.
What do you say which one is more similar to official GMAT. is it gmat prep or manhattan.

Hi, I did take both GMAT PREP'S and one MGMAT.( Manhattan)

Well the closest is always GMAT PREP.

And if u are good in one section never underestimate it. I did the same mistake and lost at least 30 points from my final score.
