GMAT: 720 first attempt, 700 second attempt. [#permalink]

I screwed up my second attempt, as I wasn't feeling well. Would the lower score count against me in b-school apps? Or would only the higher score matter?

Depends on the school you are applying to. Some schools consider the highest score only while some consider all scores. However, prima facie, it will raise eyebrows for two reasons - 1. Why would someone who has scored 720, which is a very respectable score, want to appear for GMAT again? 2. Why did that person get a lower score in the next attempt and is now applying with that score?

I've heard from nearly every school that they take the highest score. I believe that they will see both scores, but only evaluate the highest one. I'm assuming you retook the GMAT to get a more balanced split between quant and verbal.

I think this is not a big issue, but I believe you should use your optional essay to explain why you wanted to take the GMAT again and what happened with you during that test. Otherwise, the ADCOM can make wrong assumptions/conclusions regarding your scores.

Hi msmbagal, In almost all cases, your GMAT score is self-reported on your business school application. This means that admissions teams will focus on your highest score. If you are accepted, an admissions team will then confirm your score with GMAC, the makers of the GMAT test. Best, Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team
