Hi Manish - you've already gotten some feedback from others on these boards so not sure what else we can add to that, except to comment that if you did not get an interview invite from INSEAD then your essays probably were not very strong (career goals in particular and why you want to go to that school), and also as you indicated your GPA from college is not so great so that can be an issue. Your profile is in line with what INSEAD will accept though and your GMAT is good so we're betting that it was the essays and a lack of a compelling pitch. You never breathed a word of goals in your post here so we're betting that maybe you're not appreciating the importance of a good set of well-articulated career plans in the application process. That's the first place you should focus on; it's where most people fall down. You're also coming from an oversubscribed pool and while the international experience is helpful, you'll need more than that to differentiate you. Also note that INSEAD doesn't encourage reapplicants; you could try again but it's a tough sell.

If you have specific questions for EssaySnark then feel free to post a followup.

Hi EssaySnark, Thanks for your reply. Elaborating a little more based on your feedback, please consider following for profile evaluation -

1. Short term goal - Build upon my experience in Web Analytics and Digital Marketing and work as a Digital Marketing Strategist in companies such as Adobe, HP, IBM right after MBA. Business Analysis skills will come in handy for core marketing aspects such as Persuasive presentations, Stakeholder analysis, Business need vs Solution validation. Quantitative skills will help me perform the Analytics part effectively. Long term goal would be to become an expert advisor with strong focus on Marketing Analytics.

2. two major Accomplishments -
a.) Hosted critical business emergency meetings attended by CIO, VP's and Directors to present the Web traffic analysis during Hurricane Sandy for one of their biggest Campaigns (Email and Weather.com). Key business insights were generated based on the analysis, which proved beneficial for Digital marketing team to target customers selectively. I was successful to get a buy-in from business over investment in my recommended solutions. 3 months after implementation, showcased the benefits while comparing 'Before' and 'After' scenarios.
b.) Gained proficiency in Web Analytics in 5 months and trained 5 other Analysts to join the team and taught the nitty gritties of the domain. I can make a strong case here to prove my prowess in teaching, mentoring and leading a team. Although I didn't lead the team formally, I played a key role in being the face of the team to the client and managing the client requirements.

Criteria for choosing schools are -
1. Proximity to a city, where my wife will be able to work while I am studying.
2. Curriculum with Analytics and Economics being strong focus along with Marketing.

Please advise few schools where I have decent chances to get in. I am concerned about the tight timelines I've got to complete the application process as deadlines are approaching soon. In this regard, please advise which ones to target in R1 vs R2. I am looking to apply in 3-4 schools for Fall 2014. Your honest advise will be much appreciated.

Hi Manish -- the goals look good (though that was a very wordy explanation) but the "accomplishments" don't really look quite essay-worthy yet - maybe there's something in there you can build upon but they weren't expressed in the most compelling fashion.

You asked for us to suggest schools that you can have a chance to get into and it's our least-favorite question of all. We're going to have to punt again. If you want to ask us about the schools you're considering, and offer some criteria (beyond the fact that the school is located in a city which is fine but not really a selection criteria of the school) then we can give a reaction to those.

Your GMAT score qualifies you. Your goals look bschool-appropriate. Beyond that, we totally don't have enough to go on to suggest schools - there's so many factors that go into it that are super personal and it seems a little misguided to be asking for someone else to do that decision-making on your behalf... you won't know which schools are a good fit unless you do the research yourself. Obviously we can toss out names like Kellogg or NYU but that most definitely doesn't say that we think you "have decent chances to get in" since we haven't seen your pitch and know so little of your background. (We go into our attitude to all this here.)

If you want to try us again, we'll try not to let a full week+ go by before responding... we've gotten a little backed up with the deadlines and all, sorry for that.

And also: We're not saying you don't have a chance at a school like Kellogg or wherever; our position is only that it's professionally irresponsible to be trying to predict outcomes with a dearth of information. Hope that makes sense.
