GMAT Advice [#permalink] New post 01 Jul 2011, 11:42
Hi,

I recently took my GMAT exam and scored a 710 (92 percentile), Quant 48 (82 percentile), Verbal 40 (89 percentile). I studied hard for the exam and took several practice tests, including scores of 720 and 740 on the two GMAT Prep exams. I graduated 1.5 years ago from Lehigh University (3.56 GPA in their Business & Engineering Honors Program) and am currently working as an IT Consultant for a large firm. I plan to apply to the top business schools (Stanford, HBS, Haas) in approx. 2-3 years and wanted to know if it would be beneficial to retake the GMAT exam, since the averages for those schools are around 730 and getting in with any score is extremely difficult. I understand that there are numerous factors in the admissions process, but am currently debating this GMAT decision and would really appreciate your input. Thanks!

Hi Bostonite,

If you feel you can improve your GMAT score by 40+ points, it may be worth taking the test again. The GMAT is a self-reported score, so MBA admissions will only focus on your highest test score. Thus, there isn't a downside to taking the test again. The only negative would be the cost and the time spent studying, however it appears like you are already scoring very well on your practice tests.

I hope this was of help.

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team
