LOL. Thanks... we still have not found anyone capable of Android development to join the team. So it may be a bit of a wait - perhaps you can borrow the iPad more frequently ;)

Hi folks,
Being an android user myself, i feel the need to have an app which addresses the needs of this (android)fast growing mobile application platform.
Also I ,being a java web developer, preparing for GMAT, and android being a framework based on java itself , i am now more and more inclined to work on android applications.May be, i can be of help to this wonderful GMAT community somewhere down the line. :-D

I would like to see one for the Blackberry... surely there are some other people out there who use BB's...

Blackberry / RIM is overwhelmed by Apple & Google - I don't see much hope for them...
http://www.informationweek.com/news/per ... /232700481

The overall market is slightly different. Nielsen's data says 48% of all smartphone owners use an Android device, with 32.1% using iPhones, 11.6% using BlackBerrys, and 8% using "other."

Now, as far as Google Android vs. Apple iOS market shares evolution over the last 3 years,
you have to look at several parameters:
* you must consider smartphones and tablets separately
* you probably need to look at the different age groups for each as well
* consider income levels
(http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/onl ... an-iphone/)

For those interested,

Nielsen also has some really good data:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/18/niel ... martphone/
http://techpinions.com/2012-the-year-go ... e-war/5185

In a simplistic way:
* smartphones: after losing its top spot early last year, Apple iOS regained market shares thanks to the iPhone 4S
and closing up on Android OS
* tablets: the iPad has been the top dog since Apple created the market. Even though their market share is eroding,
they are benefiting from the fragmentation of the Android ecosystem.

What's your take? What devices are you using? Any clear trends among GMATClub-ers?

I use a blackberry but that's because my employer had only those 2 years ago. It is useless for anything other than email and calling but it does those 2 things well. I wish it would work better with Google Maps and would not take 8 minutes to reboot... that's a terrible feature.

I will upgrade to an iPhone when the next version comes out (http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iPhone says supposedly June but who knows). My contract is up pretty much now.

I do have an iPad though and use the GMAT Toolkit :)
