Hello everyone. Another Round of questions - this time from a different test writer. (In case you missed postings ealier this week - we are evaluating several test writers to create a set of GMAT Club's verbal tests and need your help!
Similar feedback request as before - how close is the question to the real GMAT? And, what recommendation for improvement would you give to the test writer? Please Vote.
4. The asset bust and unwinding of debt that lies behind the recession meant that eventual recovery is likely to weakening job creation rapidly and, when demand revives, the composition of jobs will change.

Agree with C. Since subject is plural, we need to use "lie" instead of "lies".

My answer is C
Tests subject-verb agreement but I think that an extra ‘that’ is missing for parallelism? cause it’s saying that ‘ v & w mean that x and that y?
Feel is about a 3/5.

Feel is about a 3/5. I dont think we need "that" in C. "when" clause is part of a compound "that" clause - or, in other words, the meaning of the sentence commands that we should not have 2 "that" clauses Very good question.

Thank you for your posts. Here are the OA and Explanation - would be fantastic if you could post your feel for the difficulty of this question - let's just put on a level between 600 and 800 - that will of course vary by each test-taker but still: Below 600
600-650
650-700
700-750
750+
OA: CSince “That” refers to the plural noun “the asset bust and unwinding of debt”, plural verb “lie’ is correct as in C, D and E. “likely to be” in C and E is better than “likely to weakening” in A, “unlikely to” in B, and “likely be” in D. “likely to be too weak to create jobs rapidly” in A is better than “likely to be too weak creating jobs rapidly” in E. Therefore C is best.

Compound subject needs plural verb
A & B out
D uses incorrect idiom
E does not use the infinitive

"lie", "likely to verb", and "too adj to infinitive" are all correct usage + 1 for C
