from statement 1,

if x = 0 both sides are equal
if x = 1 both sides are again equal {(-1)^3 = -1 & -1^3 = 1}

therefore x =0 or x = 1

from statement 2

x can only be zero because the square of a number other than zero cannot be negative. {(-1)^2 = 1 which is not equal to -(1)^2)}

therefore statement 2 is sufficient to say that x = 0

I agree about -(1)^2, but where did you get it?
we have only -x^2 and (-x)^2; is it the -x^2 ?

yes it is -x^2

negative sign is not included in the power.
