GMAT exam format change [#permalink] New post 28 Dec 2010, 07:41
I plan to take the gmat in april. Some of my friends told me to rethink because the format may change.

1) Is this true? When is the format changing?

2) Is it a disadvantage to take the exam in the old format , in case the new format is in practice during my applications?

Hi all,

I need help regarding few questions I have on the new GMAT format based scoring.

My situation is that I don't think I would be able to appear for gmat before the format changes.

1. How would the scores for verbal & quant (200-800) be affected by this change of new format?
2. How much does the independent score of new Integrated Reasoning matters in the over GMAT score?
3. When can we expect to get online books/materials/coaching available for preparation for the new IR section in the market?

Thanks so much,
Arin

I personally think its better to take the exam before the changes apply. One, you won't see any surprises such as the new integrated reasoning section. Two, there really aren't many books published just yet that cover the integrated reasoning section. That being said, OG 13 is coming out in April. This book is likely to cover this new added section.

As far as scoring is concerned, your quant and verbal section will not be scored any differently. However, with the new format, instead of having to write two essays in the AWA section, you'll only have to write one essay plus answer a few integrated reasoning questions. Hope that helps

Hi, Does anyone know the exact date when this change is going to be implemented. I checked a few links on the official site, but didn't find any mention of the dates.
