GMAT for IB or PE? [#permalink] New post 02 Apr 2011, 15:56
Alex,

I've already been admitted to Wharton. But, I have a below average GMAT score of 680. Would you recommend that I re-take the test in order to boost my score for recruiting? How important is my score for getting interviews? Thanks!!

Best,
Steve

Congrats on Wharton.

Unless you really really really want to, there's no point. You're basically assured an interview for any IB position coming from Wharton, and once you're in the interview room, it's about you. As for PE, it's about networking and hustle, not about your GMAT.

Thanks, Alex. I really, really, really don't want to re-take the GMAT. My biggest concern is that firms will use Wharton's resume book to select and contact students directly, with the GMAT being one of the factors for selection. Though I do have a background in PE, albeit working for a small boutique firm, I don't want to become disadvantaged by my low score.

Banks will interview everyone that submits a resume to them.

As for PE firms - students approach them, not the other way around.
