For somebody that scores in the 750 - 780 range, what kind of questions will he/she see? For instance, 10 easy, 15 medium, 12 hard? I need to get an idea because I am trying to figure out the timing. Thanks for the help guys.

i got a 780...but i dont remember the breakdown at all, its hard to judge what were easy/med/hard questions

you just have to play it by ear...i got a hard question early and rushed through it when i thought i was using too much time, but ended the exam with ample time left. its hard to know what will be coming later in the test, but i think for those that score in the 750+ range the last questions become easier as you ramp down from the hard questions. you may want to spend more time in the first half of the exam.

I think there is no possible benefit that you can gain from such an analysis. i mean no offense, you are better off focussing on things that you know and control.

Well said, ncprasad. It's hard to assess the difficulty of the question because every person has his own definition of what "difficult" or "easy" means in addition to personal strength in a particular type of question, say Combinatorics. I that case, every single question in combinations regardless of its relative difficulty might seem easy.

I'll tell you this much. btw, I didn't score in the 99th percentile. But, there aren't as many bins as they tout. There really are probably about 5 bins of difficulty beyond medium. If you're getting everything right, you will quickly encounter questions of impossible difficulty very soon.

I can guarantee you that the 780 scorers didn't breeze through their exam. The test really is adaptive, in the end you will probably get (roughly) as many right/wrong as anyone else. It will just be the level of difficulty of the questions that differ.

hey turtleeater

the dummy questions that are randomly sprinkled all over the questionset make all such analysis redundent........in any case the 3 hours will pass by in a flash an the good thing is that you'll get to know your score straight away
