The figure with + sign in the diagonal cell indicates the following:

x + 4 = 1, or x = -3
x + e = 7, or e = 10
y + 4 = -5, or y = -9
y + e = n, or n = 1
e + z = 10, or z = 0
z + 4 = m, or m = 4

Hence, m + n = 5.

wow, never expected GMAT to have questions like this.
Looked like a Sudoku game :)

But it is not as complicated as it looks, agree with Answer m+n = 5

+ for this, how did you figured this one? Have you came across such type of questions?

I've come across this question twice, and I agree, I couldnt get the right answer.
I scratched my head after the test, but still couldnt figure out the way.

I understand it better - GMAT TIGER....kudos

This was the first question in one of my GMATPrep tests. I kept staring at it for couple of minutes but then also understood that since this was the first question, difficulty level would be simple to medium. Finally, it was + sign in the leftmost diagonal end that gave the clue.
