I cant solve these types of questions involving algebra even after lotsss of practice

If p is a prime number greater than 2, what is the value of p?
(1) there are a total of 100 prime nos between 1 and p+1.
(2) There are a total of p prime nos between 1 and 3912.

There is nothing to solve, the question is testing your reasoning skill.

D

statement 1: tells you that p is the 100th prime number, (FYI, the value of the 100th prime number is 541, but you don't need to know that)
Suff

statement 2: says that if there is (for example) 23 prime numbers between 1 and 3912, then p is 23. If you look up the prime number table, there are probally 541 prime numbers between 1 and 3912.
Suff

"no" is a short hand for "number", and "nos" is a short hand for "numbers".

some new members here have underestimated the benefit of accuracy, especially when it comes to asking gmat DS questions.
