GMAT prep with 1000 sc/cr/rc [#permalink] New post 14 Dec 2012, 03:30
Hi

I have been preparing for gmat from past 1 month and I am planning to give gmat in Feb (or may be in Jan dependng on my prep)

I solved OG 10/11/12 (I will go through them once again) and now going through Kaplan and MGMAT 8 guides. When I solved CR/SC of OG, kaplan and MGMAT I found them easy to comprehend. I could solve the CR/SC in time with 3 or 4 out of 10 questions wrong (I am at learning stage)
Even the RC was not that tough for me as far as understanding the passage is concerned. Since I needed more practice I took 1000 CR first and found that they are tricky, difficult and I could barely get 2-3 questions right out of 10 questions (reverse now :( ). And without any proper explanation avail for 1000 SC/CR/RC I find it hard to understand.
My questions is....is 1000 sc/cr/rc worth trying? These docs are even banned now but I thought I needed more practice, so I took them and now I feel nowhere with them.
Is it sufficient to go with OG, kaplan and MGMAT guides to crack GMAT with good scores? Should I drop using 1000 sc/cr/rc?

My take:

be very good with the official material. Do it twice or even thrice if time permits.
This includes: OGs, Quant and verbal supplements, question pack and question papers

When I was done with my official material, I started with the brutal SCs - they were simply not representative of what you will see on the GMAT, in that many questions were horrendously worded or/and had errors.

I'm a "fan" of official verbal questions. Once you know the logic, the answer pops out of the screen and stares at you. Always.

you are in your learning stage, so I will advice to be very thorough with the OG explanations (even for the questions you get right)

For quant, you may do questions from gmatclub forum. You will get a very good mix of questions from various sources. (Use tags, for difficulty level and specific areas)

If you still want to practice more for verbal, I suggest practice from gmatclub forum questions rather than from 1000 SCs/Crs etc.

Good luck.
