GMAT quantitative prep cannot do it need help [#permalink] New post 07 Jul 2012, 11:29

I am a couple of weeks into my GMAT study program. I have all the Manhattan GMAT study guides. I started with the number properties guide and I must admit, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing!! I've been out of school for 6 years now and I feel like I have forgotten all the math I've ever learned. I'm going through some of the Manhattan problems and explanations and all I can think is "huhhhh??" I find myself constantly having to look at the answers and explanations. It seems as if I cannot solve the problems on my own.

I guess my question is, does everyone go through this in some form or another when they first start studying? Is it going to all eventually click for me? I'm not going to give up. I'm still chugging along.
seriously i need you help please please please

I had a very similar experience. I purchased all of the Manhattan guides, but struggled to process and apply a lot of the basic quant concepts. After a month, I ended up purchasing Knewton. I'm midway through the program, and it seems to cover the exact same concepts as the Manhattan books. However, I feel that my investment was worth it, because having someone actually explain the concepts out loud to me has been significantly more helpful.

Hi,

Are you still looking for help on Quant section?
I will suggest you to maintain a error log and follow study-practice-study cycle. Error log might looks something like

Prepare a xls sheet (topic by topic).. and keep a track of your progress on a daily basis. Use color coding (Red,Orange,Green).
Red: You are weak in theory - brush up your concepts.
Orange - Done with theory but weak in application of the concepts
Green - Done with the topic

Hope it helps!
