Hello Gmat Club members....
Thanks for all the posts ...I am starting my preparation today and wanted to get your guidance ....
Background....
I took my GMAT last week and got a score of 580
Quant - Scaled Score = 48 --- Percentile = 83
Verbal - Scaled Score = 23 --- Percentile = 28
Total - Scaled Score = 580 --- Percentile = 59
I used Kaplan GMAT online course and did all the material. These are my individual scores in my GMAT kaplan CATs (9 Tests) that I took = 640, 650, 650, 670, 690, 620, 660, 600 and 580
(Ultimate test) Averaging 640 and finally I took GMAT Prep test and scored 580. Finally, on the test day I made 580 which was same as my GMAT Prep test score.
I have taken some time and analyzed my performance -
i) I did consistently poor on Verbal section of the test and it clearly reflected on my final exam.
ii) Even though I scored well in all KAPLAN CAT exams, I think it was all due to QUANT portions.
iii) On the Quant section, I still think there are few sections in Math that I find trouble with - Properties of Integers,
Counting Methods, Discrete Probability, Absolute Value Problems, Work Related Word Problems, Inequalities.
iv) On verbal section, I have done all of
MGMAT SC book but didn't focus much on CR and RC. I was getting 70-75% right on all SC questions and only 50% right on CR and SC questions.
v) CR in particular seems to be very tough for me. All answers seem reasonable and my answer seems correct all the time. However, this is not ture since I don't get them right.
I would not want to generalize it but after speaking to some of my friends at KAPLAN course even they noticed that they were good in Quant portions and struggling in Verbal.
Since I ave put good effort into my prep the first time, I thought it would be a good idea to kepe up my momentum and take the exam again. I am planning to take my GMAT again in 6
weeks from now and chalked out the following plan. My goal is to improve more than 100 points on my GMAT. Kindly take few minutes to critique and tell me if I am on right path.
(I am not working and have all 24 Hrs)
Week 1 -
1) Start with Verbal since it is my weak area and CR in particular. For CR I am planning to get started with CR Bible and complete it by end of week 1.
2) Start SC in the middle of the week and complete review of
MGMAT SC concepts and do Power Score SC questions.
3) Do 4 RCs every day
4) For Quant - Review all concepts behind the trouble areas (listed above) in Quant for Properties of Numbers, Inequalities and Absolute Values. Complete Kaplan quizzes on Arithmatic and
Algebra.
5) Take KAPLAN Practice Test 1 and review
6) Maintain
Error Log and track the mistakes.
Week 2-
1) Verbal - Complete KAPLAN Verbal review.
2) Kaplan online resource (Complete Quizes on SC, CR and RC)
3) Complete all CR and SC Questions in
OG 12 CR Review.
4) Do atlest 5 RCs every day.
5) Take KAPLAN Practice test 2, Test 3 and review results.
6) Quant - Review concepts in Probability, and Work Related word problems and practice questions in KAPLAN question bank.
7)
Error Log - Track mistakes and make sure same errors are not repeated
Week 3-
1) Take KAPLAN Practice Tests 4, 5 and GMAT Prep Exam 1
2) Practice from KAPLAN Question Bank
3) Revise
MGMAT SC book.
4)
Error Log - Track mistakes and make sure same errors are not repeated
Week 4-
1) Take KAPLAN 6 and 7
2) Practice from KAPLAN Question Bank
3) Review Math concepts.
4) Review
OG 12 all Verbal and Quant questions (Specially the ones I get wrong in week 2)
5)
Error Log - Track mistakes and make sure same errors are not repeated
Week 5 -
1) Take Kaplan 8 and GMAT Prep Exam 2
2)
Error Log - Track mistakes and make sure same errors are not repeated
3) Review all concepts end to end
Week 6 - Take FINAL GMAT Exam
Please let me know if this plan is (1) too ambitious , (2) whether this plan will address my short commings in my first take of GMAT, (iii) Ensure me getting my aspired score of 690+
Your responses will be greatly appreciated.
