Re: GMAT Scores [#permalink]
Anybody help me!
I am planing to study abroad in USA. The University requires me to have the GMAT of at least 470. Can I do only the Verbal Section and Quantitative Section? For example: I get 36% of Verbal and 25% of Quantitative. I can't do anything in AWA section. Is it ok for me to satisfy the school?
This is the requirement of the school: mba.csusb.edu/deadlinesRequirements.html
Please help me!

You want to write the AWA essay - it is easy and obviously do the IR section. It would be silly to get denied because of skipping. Most schools only list the main GMAT score as the main requirement instead of specifying the overall (200-800), AWA (0-6) and IR (0-8).

Good Luck!

Thank you so much, bb!
Did you mean the main GMAT score is Verbal and Quantitative?
In my country, some GMAT courses are so expensive! They ask for $500 for 2 months course. So I will study GMAT at home instead of joining the course. My English is not good. However, I will try my best to do the AWA section.I don't worry about the AWA anymore if the school doesn't require the overall score.
Thanks for your help!

Re: GMAT Scores [#permalink]
Hi guys,

I have a quick doubt regarding the excel (GMAT Scores Sept 2012) that you have shared. In Oct last year, I gave my GMAT and scored a Q50 (92%), V34 (69%) with an overall score of 700. Now, as per the excel that you have shared, if I score Q50 (92%), V37 (81%), my overall score would be 710. This is a little hard to digest as a 3 point and 12% increase in Verbal will only fetch me 10 extra point in terms of overall score.

Can somebody please explain? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Re: GMAT Scores [#permalink]
As I was prepping I looked at this grid a lot and it was super helpful. I have a question though. On the real GMAT I scored a 710 by scoring 48 on Quant and 40 on Verbal. This grid says I should have got a 720. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Thanks a lot for this post bb! Its very helpful!

But I had a mismatch with the table mentioned above.

I scored 46Q - (71%) and 35V - (74%) on my first attempt this month. On my unofficial report I got 650 as the total while your table shows I should have got a 670. Why is there a discrepancy?

Thank you - it is possible to have the same Raw Score but a different total score (strange but true). The reason per the insiders is that the Total score (650) and the Raw Scores (46, 35) are calculated separately using different formulas.
The table above created by PKit is not going to be precise but this is the first time I have heard of people getting as much as 20 point difference. Usually it is no more than 20.

Thank you for reporting!

Just updated the first post with the latest IR table.
The mean score has gone up from 4.26 to 4.33 in the last few months. Not huge but inching up there. Here is the latest chart:

bb,

Do we have an updated version of the GMAT score breakup?
The one at the start of this thread dates back to 2009. I'm sure much has changed ever since.

Thanks!

Just took a practice test to find out where I stand, before I start study!
Had:

Total 450

My goal is 500-600, is it possible to achieve?
English is not my native language!

Dude,

I just moved from 26 in verbal to 33.

As much as I know:

CR - Powerscore CR bible
SC - MGMAT
RC - different people have different strategies. You'll have to come up with yours.

Start with CR and SC; the books I mentioned above should help you.

Re: GMAT Scores [#permalink]
I am just commencing my journey to take GMAT & intend to take the test on next June. What books do I need to purchase exactly & it would be convenient for me if u mention the list very precisely as per my preparation tenure of about 4 months (note - I Can study for about 3.5 hours per day on average & aspire to get 720 on the actual test).
My second inquiry is about scholarship. Is there any chance to get full free scholarship at any business school ? If yes, please kindly mention the list. Again how can I afford my living expenditures, i.e. whether there exists any earning opportunity ? (note - I am a student of Bangladesh, which is a third world poor country, & it's impossible for me to bear even beyond $ 700 per year.)

Is the spreadsheet an approximation? Because I got Q43 V37 and scored 650, spreadsheet says 660
