Gmat strategies and error log [#permalink] New post 17 Jan 2010, 09:36
Hi all,

I have one question. After going through many preparation strategies, I have started with CR and the current hit rate is around 75-80%. I want to know at what point should I change my focus to RC (because that’s 2nd in my prep list). Because once I start with RC, I might loose my focus on CR and when I come back to CR after finishing RC and then SC, I might have to start from beginning. Please explain.

Also I want to know, how to use error logs. I have seen few of them on the forums. Say for eg. I solve 500 Questions during my CR prep and I get say 100 wrong. Should I resolve this 100 or I revisit all the wrong Questions during my preparations every after say 100 questions I finish. Could anybody elucidate the process of using error logs in brief?

Thanks in advance.

To be very brief: The error log is not supposed to help you track the individual questions you got wrong, but it's supposed to be a tool you use to analyze what kind of questions you got wrong, identify specific weaknesses, let's say CR EXCEPT questions or quant geometry or the like. Note what questions you got wrong, make a note as to the exact question type, and most importantly make sure you rework the underlying principles of this question type.

Personally, I brush up on the concepts of missed questions each day. My opinion is the sooner you learn that concept the sooner you will stop making that mistake. I will rework those particular question maybe 2 weeks down the line, I want enough time for me to forget the problem and not simply remember the answer, I actually want to have to rethink the problem and for that I need some time in between.

That's how I use my error log.

In one of my MGMAT online courses, the teach said that we should not see the percentage of correct answer the same way we do at school (we already know that), yet, he thinks that if you get around 50-60% correct answers, you should be ok.....I remember once in the forum, someone said that we should get 70%...

I personally focus on CR and will start with SC may be next week...I think it is time to change the subject because I see that I get more questions correct + in less time

interesting subject and I bet lot of people want answers on that...! game of CAT and MOUSE...!

One give away from me... With CR; one thing I have noticed the day I read the definitions of the categories\types before pausing to attempt CR question I tend to do improve...! so for now i have resorted to reviewing those definitions in index cards as often as I can... hoping the trend sticks or does not reverse.
