i used a tutor & when I read & study the diff books and i did most of the practice questions in the gmat official book with relatively no problem, yet when i take the practice tests & the real thing I blank out. i forget what to look for in the sentence corrections w the diff categories & the diff math strategies

Welcome to GMAT Club Springer - this is fairly typical.
There is a big difference from working with the Official Guide and an actual computer adaptive test - the biggest difference is the ticking clock that makes it very hard to focus and concentrate at first. As you take more and more practice tests, you will get more comfortable with timed test environment and your performance will get better. To get a list of all computer adaptive tests available - see this post: All GMAT Cat Tests

Same thing happens with me. And after attempting couple of CAT tests on my laptop, I realised its actually the ticking clock on the screen which is making me nervous.

Though it may sound weird, but when I attempted these CAT tests, with the on-screen clock hidden and tracking the time with my wrist analogue watch, I was performing much better. Maybe, since we are very much used to of those traditional exams, in which we generally use wrist watch to keen an eye on timings. With wrist watch, it was easier for me to make out the time left, spend etc, by just giving a quick glance on the dial.

Anyway, can you let me know if wrist watches are allowed while giving the actual GMAT ? Probably I would try the same strategy out there.

Hi,

The rule does not permit you to wear a wristwatch while you are taking the test. However, there will be wall clocks in the room where you take your test.
