Q 2: x = 1 or z =0
if x=1, 2 terms are reduced to y+z
if z=0, both terms are reduced to xy

Q9: E

Q15: C, 40

Q 18: E, f(x) = -3x
f(a) + f(b) = -3a - 3b = -3(a+b)
f(a+b) = -3(a+b)

Q19: c
With 1 and 2, you get the equation, x^2 -x -6 =0

Q 25: $1.40 0.10+0.20+0.40+0.70 Manager Joined: 03 Nov 2006 Posts: 161 Followers: 2 Kudos [?]: 3 [0], given: 0 Re: GMAT Test prep [#permalink] ### Show Tags 08 Nov 2006, 23:23 mst wrote: Q 25:$1.40

They are saying that the total penalty changes by these amounts, therefore the total penalty is \$0.7 - you don't need to add them.

Q15:

7x + 77y = 350
x+11y=50
The only possiblity here is x=39 and y=1. Therefore x+y=40. C

Q18:

f(a+b) = f(-3(a+b)) = f(-3a+(-3b)) = f(-3a) + f(-3b) = f(a) + f(b)

Q19:
y=x^2 + (a+b)x + ab

1.
a+b=-1
y=x^2-x+ab INSUFF

2.
-6=ab INSUFF

1 and 2 together, you get the equation of the graph. SUFF

E
C - since time is given, combining 1 & 2 we know the speed, we can calculate distance.
C-since the last digit should be 0, it should be a multiple of 10

OA's are
2 E
9 E
15 C
18 E
19 C
25 B

For the Q2 why could'nt we choose option A
x=0 and z=0

xy+z=x(y+z)

0(y)+0=0(y+0)????
Could some one pls explain q18 and 19.

I got a score of 35.

Thanks

For q 18

substitue a, b for x in each of the function u will see

-3 (a+ b) = -3a+-3b

For q 19

choice 1 a+b =-1
choice 2 give y =-6 and x = 0
therefore -6 = ab

solve for a and b

C is the answer

pawan82 I also got some of these questions in a test GMAT and received a score of 45, so you are doing well to have these questions appear.

xy+z=x(y+z)
xy+z=xy+xz - for this to be true z should be 0 or x should be 1

It is not necessary that both x and z should be 0, either x=1 or z=0 alone satisfies.

Q19 asks for the value of x when y=0 for which we need the equation. Here we need the value of a and b as x=-a,-b

s1: a+b=-1 gives many values for a and b, so insuff

s2: says -6=(0+a)(0+b)=> ab=-6, insuff

together:suff to find a and b as -3 and 2

so 0=(x+2)(x-3), ans x=3,-2
