GMAT Test Taking Advice [#permalink] New post 27 Aug 2011, 16:10
GMAT Club Forum,

First time poster, so forgive me if I break any rules.

I'm scheduled to take my test on 30 August, but I'm feeling a lot of pressure and I'm not too confident I'll do well (maybe that's just nerves). I somehow managed to go through my whole life without taking geometry, but I feel like I mastered that. I went through 90% of all four Manhattan math books (100% of all the non-advanced sections). I'm also highly confident I'll do well in the writing and critical reasoning areas. I downloaded the GMAT Prep software earlier. I got 15 out of 15 right on the math practice, but made two kinds of mistakes on the actual practice exam. One kind of mistake was misreading the question. The other mistakes can be attributed to knowledge gaps. I got 8 out of the first 15 wrong (2 of those attributable to reading mistakes), and this fact makes me nervous.

I wanted to postpone my test, but I'll have to pay full price because I'm within the 7-day window. How will it look on an application if I do poorly on the first test, do well on the second test, and write about my GMAT experience somewhere in an application essay?

Ack! Sorry, I'm scatterbrained at the moment!

Hi bobhoskins, welcome to gmat club!

I think you should sit for the test and if you dont get your desired score, you can have a re-attempt in a month or two. This first attempt will help you in familiarizing yourself with the test center environment and the related pressure. If you get a higher score on your second attempt, B.schools will consider your highest score, so no point to worry.

Best of luck!!
