GMAT Timer I've written a simple timer (for Windows XP, Vista) for GMAT. It will definitely be useful in preparation. 12/29/2010 Please, use it as it is. I won't support it at least for the near future. If you need a more sophisticated timer, please, take a look at the GMAT ToolKit (iPhone/iPod Touch application). If somebody wants to improve it, I will find and send you source files (CodeGear, Delphi) Thanks, Walker.

No sounds? control panel-> sounds and audio devices-> sounds tab-> check if the sound scheme is selected to "No sounds" , instead it should be selected to "Windows default". Other Timer Resources useful for the GMAT - Links to timers for an Apple Computer:
- Links to a Flash timer:
- Links to an MS Excel timers/Error Logs:
As of 6/2010, we have a Timer built into the GMAT Club Question Forums: See this discussion for more details and a demo. It provides you with a list of all the questions you attempted! Attachment:

Walker - Thanks a ton for the timer. The app is awesome.
For someone who asked whether the timer works with Vista, the answer is it does.

First of all I'd like to thank you for this program that helps a lot of people in their preparation for GMAT. It's great! Nevertheless my first use of this program wasn't lucky: I solved almost all verbal section, pushed pause and went away, when I was back my laptop was unable to awake from suspend mode, and I lost all results! If I used Excel (+timer) for this purpose it wouldn't happen cause Excel makes temporary files and saves data in a stated period of time (that I can change in options). May be it's better to save each answer to a txt file i.e. update txt file each time user answers to a question? P.S. and one more improvement that can be made in this program - adding a hot key ("P" or "blank") for pausing.

At least now, I have a good reason to do so. juliastudent wrote: P.S. and one more improvement that can be made in this program - adding a hot key ("P" or "blank") for pausing. Ok. Hi Walker I am using the GMAT Timer not only for timing paper tests, but also for my daily practice. The only problem I face while practicing is, I have to reset the timer after 37 questions of Quant (or 41 questions of Verbal). If you are planning to enhance the timer anyways, could you please change it to accept number of questions and countdown timing as user input?

I've realized all this functionality in iPhone/iPod GMAT ToolKit Timer. I hope I will find time in Chicago to add features you request to Windows GMAT Timer.

By the way, in GMAT ToolKit (for iPhone/iPod) you be able to set up custom number of question and time.

Thought I'd share my own version of the GMAT timer. Its in excel. I will not say that it is completely bug free. Try at your own risk... Some hints to use it: 1. It has two tabs - 'test' tab where you take the actual test and the 'test summary' tab where you can copy and paste the results of your test from the 'test tab' for analysis (there is a sample 'test summary' tab, showing it the way i used it). 2. Test tab has four buttons: a. Passage - click on it when you start reading a passage (yes, i kept track of my time on passages separately) and click on it one more time when you are done reading the passage (alternately, you can use Shift+P to register start time and end time separately). b. Qtime - When you hit this button after you are done with your test, it will give you the time/Q in the column 'Time/Q' c. Start - Hitting the button starts your clock. It is automatically set to 75 min. However, say you are doing only 10 Q's and you want to time yourself for 15 min, you can click on the 'green' cell which displays the time and enter your time.. It will then count down from that time. However, the next time you take the test, it will reset itself to 75 min d. Stop - Hitting the button stops the clock - you might want to do this after you are done with the test ahead of time. The columns are self explanatory...You can register your ans by clicking on the column under the header 'Quant' for the Quant section. After you key in a choice, hit 'Enter' and it will go to the next cell below (a.k.a next Q). The columns with header 'Time/Q' will show the time you took to answer a Q only after you complete the test and hit the 'QTime' button (set it up that way so that I wont be distracted while taking the test). The column 'RC' will show the time for each passage that you had to complete (if you record the time correctly using the passage button or 'Ctrl+P' - you need to click twice - once to start the clock for the passage and one to stop it. otherwise, it might give you some wacky time!) Happy testing! Attachment:
