GMAT tomorrow, should I cancel/reschedule my test? [#permalink]
02 Dec 2011, 20:48
I've been scoring in the 600-630 range on the GMAC Prep Tests and my target is a 700.
I set my test date a month ago assuming it'd give me enough time to study.
I have yet to hit a 700 on any prep test.
My test is tomorrow at noon and I've strongly been considering canceling/pushing it back 2 months.
What do you guys think I should do?

The generic advice for this around here is to always always always take it. You paid 250 bucks, and admissions committees really do look at your best score, so worst case scenario you go in and take it, do worse than you wanted to, and retake it in a month or two without any of the virgin jitters. Best case scenario you do awesome.

I think you need a week notice to reschedule...
I was feeling the same way before my first try... turned into a $250 practice test... Taking it again in a week.
Hope you did well, if not you can always try again.

No - don't cancel (you won't get any money back). Hope you took it

FYI, I was in your same position, I hope you took the test, I was feeling really nervous the night before, and thought about canceling, so instead I just scheduled another exam. I was shooting for a 700+ as well and hadn't gotten that on any practice tests. Went into the test, took it, got a crummy score, a month later for my rescheduled test I ended up with a 710...

I ended up taking the test. I got a 590 38 Q 33 V I plan to study for the next month and see where that takes me before scheduling my next text. I originally scheduled the test for December so that I'd be able to apply for second round to schools for Fall 2012. Given the score I got, I won't be going until Fall 2013 so I'm not going to schedule my test until I truly know I'm ready for it.

Sounds like you needed a pretty high score - sorry about not hitting it. Sounds like your practice tests were consistent with your result (sorry but it also gives you an idea and an indicator about how much you need to score on practice tests in the future). I would highly recommend not to stretch your prep too much. I have repeatedly seen people score less after taking a very long time to prep.

My advice would just take the test so you get a feel how the test taking experience is. I had already taken the test once and didn't do as well. I thought I could have done better but I know how the test feels and know what to expect.

I personally studied for about 4 months but had to go through several GMAT "burnouts" during the later months of the prep. There were times when i just could not make myself look at another CR or SC. I feel that there is a point in everyone's prep where they realize that they have reached the peak of their abilities. If you are happy with the level of prep you have put in and your scores are starting to stagnate, stop studying and take the exam.
