GMAT : Ultimate defeat ? [#permalink] New post 20 Jul 2012, 05:55
Paris, 20 of July 2012

Dear all,

I've just got 600 (Q42,V31) and I was targeting top MBAs (120 points lacks, the gap is unfortunately huge)... I read somewhere that MBAs take the average of GMAT scores.

Thus if one day, I reach a 750 score, it means that top MBAs will be still out of my scope because 675 (the mean) is still low as my probability of getting 750.

I'm almost 24 years old, soon (6 month) graduated from EDHEC Business School (Master in Management with a MSc in Financial Management major Corporate Finance) and so I'm wondering if this system of taking the mean is valid during a certain period. I mean, could MBAs simply forget our GMAT score after a certain period ?

If so, does this period allows me to keep in mind top MBAs (if this peridod is 20 years I will be 44 years old and therefore too old for an MBA...) ?

Thank you beforehand to give me precise quotes in your answer.

Best regards.

First, your GMAT score is valid for 5 years.
B schools only look at your most recent one and disregard the old ones. However some schools (UChicago Booth?) say that will discount the score a bit after 4-5 attempts.

BTW, why are you looking for a MBA just after your Masters graduation? You probably don't need it for career advancement in EU.

dude whoever told you that schools take the average score is crazy. only your recent score is taken. so, if you score 750 your score is eligible for any bschool in the world. so go for it!! good luck or should i say bonne chance...
