gmat- when to know to give up on it [#permalink] New post 15 Jul 2006, 20:59
hey all,

This questions is pertinent to the application.. i am spending so much time on gmat.. I scored 660(Q:50,V:29).

I have been studying for 2 months now after the exam, and my verbal score is hovering around 33 to 36.. this is higher than what I scored in the official GMAT, but... the verbal exams are easier than the gmatprep.. And my practice exams before I gave my official gmat also had 33-36 range.. So my scores are identical now before I gave my official gmat..

What should I do? Stop studying with gmat? And concentrate on the application?

Is 660 enough to get in to Chicago and London?

Any advice.. I am so tired and ready to give up.. the more I think about the essays, the more I get scared.. Because I know I would need like 40 hours for 1500 word essay!!!!!

Advice!@!!!!!!!!!!!

Appreciate it!

I dont feel like taking a break now and doing essays because then I know I will loose the gmat touch...

here are my scores for more analysing:

Before first official GMAT Test

Princeton Test 1 20-Jan 660(M:49,V:33)
Princeton Test 2 29-Apr 700(M:51,V:36)
GMAT Prep 1 April 660(Q:46,V:36)
GMAT Prep 2 April 720(Q:50,V:38)
PowerPrep1 May 740(Q:47,V:44)
GMAT Prep 1(reinstall) May 720(Q:49,V:38)
Official GMAT 4-May 660(Q:50,V:29)

After studying Veritas Prep for 1.5 months and other materials:
Veritas Test1 22-Jun 640(Q:43,V:36)
Veritas Test2 13-Jul 650(Q:49,V:33)
800Score Test1 11-Jul 760(Q:48,V:44)
800Score Test2 14-Jul 660(Q:46,V:38)
Gmat Club Challenges --> Took 1,2 and 20. percentile is 95%

800Score Test 1 Verbal was too easy.. SC was a joke. a person like me getting all SC correct is bound to be a joke!
800Score Test 2 --> I screwed up CR's.. Otherwise I had a good chance.. And the QUANT was HORRENDOUS.. I mean so tough.. Anyone seen this?

Thanks a lot for advice!

If the rest of your app is strong, 660 gmat is ok. Surely a higher gmat scrore will be better but it should not have any negative impact on the rest of your application. If you decide to go with this gmat score, get professional help to prepare the rest of your application to have a good chance at chicago.

I agree with gmatmba, concentrate on your application and you will be able to make it. However, as an aside note, I would revise the learning strategy as not having any progress after two month of learning is at least strange.
