I was wondering if you can comment on the importance of the GMAT writing score relative to the Verbal/Math sections. Is it somewhat less important? If not, what would be a relative safe score so that at least it wouldn't be counted against me for the top schools? The primary schools I am considering are Duke, Michigan, Northwestern, MIT, and UCLA. Thank you very much for your help.
The AWA is the least important score on the GMAT. It is used frequently as a check when essays are too smooth. (Does this guy really write this well?)And it is used when assessing internationals. Don't retake a good GMAT because you did poorly on the TOEFL. Write strong essays, interview well, and have your recommenders comment on your writing abilities.
