i'm still trying to figure out who that person in ncprasad's avatar picture is. Reminds me of John Mayer.

Anyway, haven't found an avatar that really suits me yet... will pick one if I see one...

The guy in the picture is Jason Mraz. My obsession with the MBA and application process reminded me of his "Geek in the pink" song. Thus, the avatar.

oh yeah, that's what I meant... I was thinking of the guy who sang "You and I both" and some how John Mayer's name jumped into my head...

Maybe I can reach rhyme some day, though he has provided much more help to the GMATClubbers than I have... I'll have to step it up! :)

I remember that thread referenced in the first message. Ahh, the days of sitting around writing long detailed messages speculating about admissions. Those were the days...

I wish I could pull that off...where I work they track everything you do online and if you use the internet for personal use during working hours you can get in trouble.

that strict eh? wow! Yeah, I'm always surfing the web (my job is to collect data), so while they do track, they don't really care that much.

Ya more than a few people I work with have had letters in their file for surfing during the day. Its a slap on the wrist as long as you aren't doing something to make money (day trading), looking at porn, visiting hate sites, gamble, or basically anything your wife would probably frown upon.

They block personal email accounts, you can't open yahoo, gmail, or anything like that. They block youtube, myspace, facebook, and all those kinds of sites. It pretty much is big brother. They put printouts of what you did in the file. As long as you aren't going to certain types of sites you can get away with it but message boards are things that are tracked automatically, so is ebay (thats a common one people get caught on).

And they say government workers waste the tax payers money. I get out of work at 3pm and if I sign on aim when I get home half my friends who are at work start conversations about how they are surfing the net and send me links to stuff.

yeah, my company blocks all personal mail, mainly because people opened virus files all the time. But it's definitely not as strict as a pure government place. That's pretty crazy that they keep these things on file. I mean, My boss (a director) is on ebay all the time when I walk into his office ;)

Its great during Baseball season when there are day games. You can tell people are streaming feeds on the Red Sox games because it bogs down the whole network...My manager was on some task force that was dealing with some internet abuse issues a few years ago and he said during an afternoon baseball game something like 20% of the computers on base were either using the radio station site to stream audio or were on the teams website getting the gameplay pitch by pitch. They actually block some of that stuff now too. Once they find sites that lead to abuse they block them. Photobucket and youtube are now blocked because of the same type of abuse.

Dude. In your case, it's not even a prediction. With your background, reasonably good essays should open doors very easily for you. Just pour your heart into the essays. You will do great.

that is very true. grad_mba, you have probably the most outstanding background out of anyone I've read here. For you, it's all in the essays and how you sell your uniqueness! Stanford will love you! :)

I have the easiest job ... as an auditor, I need full web service.. so needless to say other than p2p software.. i do everything..they monitor the sites I visit, but dont do much..(no porn though, I hate the pop ups...makes me lost track of where I was going in the first place)

Sweet..I caught one senior surfing dating sites for 3 days.. gave me some mischevious ideas about creating a fake profile and giving him some high hopes.

Yea, my work tracks web use and blocks personal email accounts. But after I got promoted, they don't care anymore :P. Oh, and if you download google desktop the software will display your gmail/yahoo mails without opening the browser...it's a nice way to get around the IT rules.
