Goals Essay - European MBA Programs [#permalink] New post 14 Jan 2009, 10:34
Hello Alex

I had a question regarding the apps for European programs. I am planning to submit my application for the full time MBA program in INSEAD & Cranfield. I am also applying at Notre Dame and Emory (2 Yr programs) in USA.I am getting stuck on the essays and I am not exactly sure as to how to get this resolved.

I work as an IT consultant and most of my experience has been in the health insurance industry in USA. My goal after the MBA is to join a management rotation program in the US health insurance industry and eventually move into product development.

My concern is that would a European program frown upon a goals essay that talks about joining the industry in a specific country (USA)? I am not sure about the health insurance practices in other countries.

Thanks.

Then why apply to a European program if you're looking to work in the US?

I am a non-US citizen (no green card). staying out of the country for a year will make it easier to come back from a visa perspective. Also a European program makes sense from a timeline perspective (1 year) as I am an older candidate (33 yrs old).

Anyway, from your response I infer that I will need to stay away from country specific goals.

It's not about staying away from country specific goals.

It's making your reasons for wanting to be in Europe sincere and convincing. In the essays and interview, the adcom wants to know that your reasons aren't superficial (I know you're probably not going to use your visa situation as the reason but you know what I mean about showing them real love). And if you can't show them real love, then you should seriously re-think why you are willing to move halfway across the world because of some immigration reason.

I definitely will not be talking about the visa issue. My strategy was to modify the essays I used for the US programs to include the international aspect of an education in INSEAD & Cranfield, the GM focus of their programs and the specific resources in the schools that I plan to utilize. I guess this is what they would need to see.
