@entwistle: Since you have already got 710, I am assuming that you must be pretty strong in Quant. I am planning to take GMAT in July. How should I plan to cover the syllabus as well as revise in this time frame ??

You plan looks good. i would only suggest one thing here(im taking the liberty to suggest;-) ) - keep doing verbal daily!even once you master SC, atleast do 5 SC questions everyday after that.

Good Luck. Will wait for your 760 debrief ;-)

Hi Obidan,

The first step is to take a diagnostic test to see where you stand. Use the GMAT Prep Test 1 for this purpose. Once you take a full prep GMAT test, you should be able to determine the general level of your preparedness. I classify the quant score into the following three categories:

1. 44 to 46 - Basics are okay however not familiar with timing strategies and guessing strategies.
2. 47 to 48 - Fundamentals are strong and timing is okay.
3. 49 to 51 - Thorough knowledge of areas tested (including the finer points) and timing is near perfect.

If your score is below 44, you need to work on your fundamentals.

Depending on your score, I will be able to provide further guidance!

Good Luck!

Yeah... I will be doing some questions everyday :)
If not questions, I will figure out another way to retain all the concepts \m/

So how long have you been on your GMAT journey so far? Starting at prep for the 650 through now? And when are you taking the test again?

Just competing against myself man :)

That's the only reason why I'm taking the test! I don't think 710 represents my full potential ;)

Oh I wasn't second-guessing your decision to re-take it. I fully support you! haha.

I was just curious how long the preparation has been.

Well... Right now I'm strengthening my quant... I'm aiming for 51 :)
I'll focus on verbal after a month... I'm taking the GMAT in July... I tend to retain quant concepts more than verbal... Thus, I'm saving verbal for later ;)

Kudos and Good luck for the new journey man! \m/

Sackman's book is so expensive that I haven't even thought of buying it :? I can't really comment on it's merit or demerit. To improve quant you need two things:
1. A good book which covers all the concepts.
2. A collection of questions which expose you to the various ways in which the concept can be applied.

For scoring a 48 or 49 in quant, Manhattan GMAT and OG 12 will do :)

Thanks Ent, Guestion for you, would it be possible once I receive OG11, to do the Quant Diag and scan and email you my work sheets, with answers, to show you maybe what you think I am doing right/wrong, I know it's only a subset of 37 Q's but honestly I feel like it will be a good representation of perhaps some formulas, tough Qs and perhaps some basic DS/PS

Thanks in advance I know you're a tutor now, so I can pay you in Kudos ;p ;p

Going for the Gold - Chasing the 760 - A New Quest

Dear Members,

The journey to break through the 700 barrier culminated in a bittersweet experience. On one hand, I achieved my target score (T: 710 Q: 48 and V: 40) but on the other hand, I realized that I cannot meet the deadlines for the last round of intake for Fall '11.

Thus, I plan to apply to programs beginning in Fall '12. The deadlines for the 1st round of intake would be in the month of October. So I have a lot of time at hand - nearly 8 months!

With my present credentials and a GMAT score of 710, I can probably secure a seat in one of the many B-schools which fall in the near-elite to elite category. However, if I can boost my score of 710 to a +760 and add to my work experience (while simultaneously working on my extra-curricular activities) , I can actually aim for ultra-elite B-schools such as Harvard, Booth, Stanford etc.

Taking into consideration the above factors, I have decided to take on a new quest - a quest to surpass the 760 barrier!

This post marks the beginning of that Journey.

Wish me luck.

Thanks and Regards,
Entwistle

Hey Entwistle
Kudos to your spirit
I am an engineer from India in a fortune 102 comp in sales domain with engg back ground
i have 6 years of work ex and i am targetting colleges like

Hi Warlock,
SP Jain invites people for interview according to their profile and you need to have a GMAT score of 680 to get a final call. For ISB, with 6 years experience a score of 710 to 730 would get you an interview call. I'm not sure about XLRI though!

Set your target score as 720 with an 80/80 split.
