Goizueta vs. Wash U (Olin) w/ Scholarship Money [#permalink] New post 30 May 2013, 12:59

Yesterday I was notified that I was accepted into the Two-Year Full-Time MBA program at Emory's Goizueta school of business off the wait list. Additionally I am also accepted to Wash U Olin with a scholarship that is a little less than one full year of tuition. I am planning on studying marketing, and will be looking for a job in Brand management.

Additionally, I am from New York, and I will be looking to return to the Northeast following my MBA. It seems that both schools are pretty regional, but do you think that it will be easier to get back to the Northeast from Goizueta over Olin?

Academically, both schools seem very similar.

Please let me know your thoughts on whether I should pass up my scholarship at Olin, and attend Goizueta with no scholarship money.

Thanks in advance for all of your helpful information.

I think i may have already answered this question, but it sounds like you are in a good spot to be sure. Both schools will provide you with the education you seek. As for the job opportunities, it's likely you will need to roll up your sleeves a bit more than the students who will be staying in St. Louis or in Atlanta, but Emory and Wash U send plenty of grads to Wall Street. My advice would be to hit the ground running from day one--reach out for informational interviews and make contacts. The opportunity to interview for internships comes quickly so contact your target employers and ask them how you can get a chance to interview for an internship since they don't come to your campus. I worked at Goldman Sachs for my internship and had a colleague there who came from UT Knoxville--way off Goldman's radar. He was vigilant in seeking NY opportunities and ended up making it happen. So can you. Doesn't matter if it's Olin or Goizueta. Just make sure you attack the plan from day one. Start a Wall Street club. Lead a group to go tour NYC and visit companies. They will welcome you with open arms if you represent your school. They will also admire your resourcefulness.
