http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid= ... qIBznBttBcI guess the controversial 'algorithmic trading' has a big role to play in these earnings.

Larry Fink says a lot of it is due to wider spreads on trades due to lack of competition. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/11977bd6-764a ... abdc0.html

This is a ridiculous article. Sure, Goldman may have a record trading year... But everyone else is, too! Nearly every big bank on wall street has had a perfect trading year thus far (every day has been profitable) and trading revenues should be through the roof with all the volatility Posted from my mobile device

Are you kidding? I just saw the guy behind the counter knock down those bottles. If he can knock 'em down, anyone can. Can you spare some cash, though? He took my last $20.

The Algs have very little to play in making the money - it will be FICC again as the volume and spreads there make it a near foregone conclusion to make money. Chances are they will build that bit up again with the new legislation. The game is rigged only in so much that as a broker you should always be able to make money if you understand the market. The spread adjusts to the vol and you should always take a cent.
